How does Fields of Mistria romance work?
Fields of Mistria has 12 marriage candidates, and NPC Studio says eligible villagers are not restricted by the player character’s gender. Build friendship, follow the chosen character’s relationship content, enter dating, and complete the current ten-heart path before proposal and wedding content. Version 1.0 includes marriage and optional children.
Older guides that stop at eight hearts or say marriage is unavailable describe Early Access. Use the Social tab to identify characters marked as single, then check a current character page for gifts and event conditions. Exact event windows can change, so the broad romance page does not invent a universal schedule.

Friendship, dating, and ten-heart progression
Romance grows from the broader friendship system rather than replacing it. Talk to the character, use verified gifts, and complete their relationship events as the game presents them. Reaching a heart threshold alone may not trigger a scene if a prior event, story step, location, season, weather, or time requirement is missing.
Version 1.0 adds ten-heart proposal and wedding events. The exact dating item, proposal materials, and event schedule should be verified against the current character or marriage page before being treated as universal. Unverified formulas for heart points and “fastest romance” routes are not included here.
Can you date multiple characters?
The official 1.0 FAQ addresses players who have dated more than one candidate before marriage. Once the player marries, the other dated characters move to best friend status. This preserves those relationships as friendships while establishing the spouse relationship.
The official FAQ says characters you were dating switch to Best Friend status after you marry. This guide does not publish jealousy, divorce, or additional breakup penalties that are absent from the researched official material. Save before a major relationship choice if you want to revisit another outcome.
Marriage, weddings, and children
Marriage and wedding content are available in version 1.0 after completing the required candidate progression. NPC Studio also confirms that children are optional, so marriage does not force the player to have a child. Character-specific scenes can contain spoilers and belong on the corresponding guide.
The release announcement describes proposals, weddings, marriage, and children as completed 1.0 features. It does not make every candidate’s route identical. Caldarus, for example, has a story prerequisite before ordinary gifting becomes available.
Why did a romance event not trigger?
First verify the game version, current heart level, and completion of the previous character event. Then recheck story progress, map location, time, season, weather, and whether another scene is occupying the same area. Leave and re-enter during the valid window after all confirmed conditions are met.
Do not use an Early Access event cap as a 1.0 rule. The character pages publish only the current requirements present in the researched sources and keep those checks separate from plot spoilers.
